Alles in Handarbeit (Original Title: Hardly Working ) is a slapstick comedy film directed in 1979 by and with Jerry Lewis . The film, which was badly reviewed by the critics, was released in German-speaking countries on January 31, 1980. In the United States it was only released on April 3, 1981.

Bo Hooper has had numerous jobs; most recently he was engaged as a circus clown. After the circus closes, he lives with his sister and tries a plethora of jobs, all of which fail because of his clumsiness. At least he gets to know his great love, Millie, while working as a gas station attendant. Only as a postman do you have more patience with him. Finally he can return to his old job.
criticism
Roger Ebert considered the film “one of the worst films that has ever been commercially exploited in this country. No wonder it was on the dump for two years. ”In his“ Movie Guide ”, Leonard Maltin remarks that the“ opening sequence is funnier than everything that follows ”(taken from old films). The lexicon of international films saw a "Jerry Lewis film with only a few original gags, which disappoints with sentimentality and vagueness in terms of content." Cinema.de regrets: "What a shame, Jerry Lewis degenerates into a sheer self-parody."
Remarks
The first Lewis film in eight years - eight years after one that has not yet been released - was an artistic disaster, but was relatively successful commercially.
