Steve Franken

Stephen Robert Franken (born May 27, 1932 in Queens , New York City , † August 24, 2012 in Canoga Park , Los Angeles , California ) was an American actor .

Life

Stephen Robert Franken was born the son of a Hollywood press agent. After graduating from Cornell University , he studied acting at the renowned Actors Studio against his parents' wishes . He made his Broadway debut in 1958 in the play Edwin Booth . In the same year he made his debut in a small supporting role in the love drama One day the door opens as a film actor. A year later he got the role of Chatsworth Osborne, Jr. in the sitcom The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis , which he impersonated in 32 episodes from 1959 to 1963. He returned to the same role in the later television adaptation of The Rich Widow's Visit in 1988. During his entire career, Franken has appeared in more than 150 productions.

On August 24, 2012, Franken died at the age of 80 as a result of his cancer in a nursing home in Canoga Park. He was married twice in his life. On October 17, 1965, he married Julia E. Carter, with whom he later had two children. After the divorce, he married Jean Garrett. They were married until his death and had one child.
