William "Buddy" Lester , born in Albert Goldberg (born January 16, 1915 or 1916 or 1917 in Chicago , Illinois , † October 4, 2002 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American actor and comedian .

Life

According to various sources, William Lester was born in Chicago as Albert Goldberg in either 1915 or 1916 or 1917. He was the son of comedian and journalist James Goldberg. His mother passed away when he was six years old. With his older brother, later comedian Jerry Lester , he appeared in variety shows at the age of seven. During World War II , he served in the United States Navy . He later appeared again in nightclubs and was booked as a comedian more often than the preliminary act by Frank Sinatra . So he came into contact with the Rat Pack and later played alongside Sinatra, Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Jr. in the two films Frankie and his cronies and The Victorious Three . He later appeared on the side of Jerry Lewis in several films , including The Crazy Professor , The Heulboje and Alles Crafted .

Lester had a larger scar under his lip that was so prominent that it was often cast for villains because of it. He had different stories about how he got that scar. So he said he had had her since an explosion on Guadalcanal . Another version was that he got the scar during a fencing duel with a German student in Heidelberg. It was only in a 1961 interview with the Los Angeles Mirror that he cleared up the riddle. As a three-year-old he fell on a broken glass of water.

Lester died on October 4, 2002 as a result of his cancer in a nursing home in Van Nuys . He left two children, four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
