LQ Jones (actually Justus Ellis McQueen ; born August 19, 1927 in Beaumont , Texas ) is an American actor and filmmaker . He was best known for his roles in westerns and as a regular actor for Sam Peckinpah .
Life
After attending the University of Texas , Justus McQueen worked as a rancher for a short time before embarking on a career in Hollywood on the advice of his former college roommate, Fess Parker . He made his film debut in 1955 in the war drama Vacation Until Wake up at the side of Van Heflin and Tab Hunter, still under his maiden name; he played a laconic soldier named LQ Jones . He liked the role name and subsequently adopted it as his stage name. He then played other supporting roles in television series and feature films . After vacation until wake up , he could be seen in other war films about the Second World War over the next few years, but he also established himself primarily as an actor in westerns : in 1955 he appeared alongside Clint Walker in three episodes of the western series Cheyenne . In the 1960s, Jones was one of the regulars actor of Sam Peckinpah and entered both in the television series Klondike and in the movies Sacramento , Major Dundee , The Wild Bunch - You know no law , billed is the end , and Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid on .
With his physical, emphatically masculine appearance and a mustache characteristic of later years, Jones was often cast as a devious western villain. Between 1963 and 1971, Jones took on a recurring supporting role as ranch helper "Belden" in the western series The People of Shiloh Ranch . Throughout the 1970s and 1980s, Jones guest-starred on many television series including The A-Team , Columbo , A Duke Seldom Comes Alone , Charlie's Angels , Walker, Texas Ranger, and A Colt Just In Case . In the mid-1990s he had a few major supporting roles in successful Hollywood films such as Lightning Jack with Paul Hogan , The Patriot - Fight for Survival with Steven Seagal and Martin Scorseses Casino , some of which also played outside the Western metier. Jones most recently appeared in the role of a dying show veteran in Robert Altman's last film, Robert Altman's Last Radio Show, in 2006.
In the 1960s and 1970s, Jones was involved in several films as a director , screenwriter and film producer behind the camera. Best known is probably his work as director, co-writer and co-producer on the unconventional science fiction film The Boy and His Dog with Don Johnson in the lead role, for which Jones received a Hugo Award . He also made a cameo in the film as a porn actor.
