Fess Parker
Fess Elisha Parker Jr. (born August 16, 1924 in Fort Worth , Texas , † March 18, 2010 in Santa Ynez , California ) was an American actor and winemaker .
Life
Fess Parker grew up near San Angelo , where his father ran a farm . Parker served in the US Navy during World War II . In 1950 he presented at the University of Texas his bachelor's degree in the subject History from.
Film career
Parker then moved to California and studied acting at the University of Southern California with the aim of earning a Master of Arts degree in theater studies . However, his first engagements as an actor prevented him from successfully completing his studies.
In the early 1950s, Parker played his first roles in various movies , including Formicula (1954). He was signed by the Walt Disney Studios and suddenly known for his participation in the Disney television series Davy Crockett (1954-1956) and the international theatrical releases Davy Crockett, King of the Trappers (1954) and Davy Crockett and the River Pirates (1956). Walt Disney then made him the star of his feature films In a Secret Mission (1956), Train of the Fearless (1956), His Friend Jello (1957) and The Heart of an Indian (1958). The Walt Disney Company named him a Disney Legend in 1991 .
In the US television series Daniel Boone , Parker played the historical figure of the pioneer and adventurer Daniel Boone from 1964 to 1970 . Here he directed some episodes himself and worked as a producer.
Parker married Marcella Belle Rinehart on January 18, 1960. The couple had two children.
Further career
In the 1970s, Fess Parker largely withdrew from the film business and instead worked as a real estate agent and hotelier . From the end of the 1980s he worked in California as a winemaker on the family-owned wineries in Los Olivos in the Santa Ynez Valley . The company produced several award-winning wines. Alluding to his film role as Davy Crockett , he chose a gold raccoon hat as the company's logo .
Parker was a longtime friend of Ronald Reagan whose estate is near Parker's wineries. He represented Reagan on an official mission in Australia in 1985 . By Michael Deaver , the Advisor to the President, the Office of the Australian, he was ambassador offered, he refused. He was also under discussion as a challenger to Alan Cranston for the office of US Senator .
