Boards for Lillian Disney , Edna Disney , Floyd Gottfredson and Al Taliaferro

Disney Legends (German translated Disney Legends ) is an award of the Walt Disney Company , which was first awarded in 1987. It is awarded to individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to the Disney films and is presented annually at a special ceremony.

The winners are nominated by a selection committee made up of long-time Disney executives, historians and other authorities. The chairman of the committee was Walt Disney's nephew Roy E. Disney until his death .

The Disney headquarters in Burbank , California will place a bronze plaque with the handprints and the signature of the winner on a square in front of the Michael D. Eisner Building (if the award is given to a living person). The winner will receive a statue designed by the artist Andrea Favilli . It depicts Mickey Mouse's outstretched arm with a sparkling wand, based on the character of the sorcerer's apprentice in the film Fantasia (1940), into which Mickey slipped.
