Mark Hamill
Mark Richard Hamill (born September 25, 1951 in Oakland , California ) is an American actor and voice actor . He was best known for the role of Luke Skywalker in six Star Wars films. He also had success by synchronizing the Joker in the Batman cartoon series.
Life
Childhood and youth
Mark Hamill is the son of Virginia Suzanne and William Thomas Hamill, a former captain of the US Navy . He is the middle of seven children: two brothers, Will and Patrick, and four sisters, Terry, Jan, Jeanie and Kim and older than Jeanie, Kim and Patrick. Because of his father's work, the family was often forced to change their place of residence, which means that Mark Hamill completed his education at different schools. He attended Annandale High School in Annandale, Virginia , through tenth grade, and graduated from Nile C. Kinnick High School in Yokosuka , Japan . He then studied acting at Los Angeles City College .
Career
Acting Hamill first became active in the early 1970s through appearances on a number of television series, including General Hospital and The Partridge Family . His big breakthrough came in 1977 when he played the leading role of Luke Skywalker in George Lucas ' Star Wars . Hamill's friend Robert Englund was auditioning for a role in Apocalypse Now when he heard the audition for Star Wars in the same studio . He convinced Hamill that he would fit the role of Luke Skywalker; Hamill auditioned and was accepted. The $ 11 million production Star Wars grossed $ 503 million and topped the list of the world's most financially successful films at the time. Hamill became world famous. He also appeared in this role in the following two films The Empire Strikes Back and The Return of the Jedi . For this he was awarded two Saturn Awards as best leading actor. Almost 30 years later, he returned to the role of Luke Skywalker for the Star Wars sequel trilogy , which began with The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi and ended in 2019 with the final ninth episode The Rise of Skywalker .
In addition to and after the successful first Star Wars trilogy, he was seen in other films such as The Big Red One from 1980. In 1995 he starred in John Carpenter's horror flick The Village of the Damned . However, unlike his co-star Harrison Ford , Hamill was no longer able to build on the success of the Star Wars films . In 1998 he starred in the Swedish action film Commander Hamilton . He was also active as a stage actor and starred in several theater performances on Broadway, including the drama Amadeus . This earned him a nomination for a Drama Desk Award . He also auditioned for the role of Mozart in Amadeus , but was turned down by the producers on the grounds that they didn't want Luke Skywalker in the film.
Hamill was eventually selected as the voice actor for The Joker for the 1992 animated series Batman after Warner Brothers ' first choice , Tim Curry , dropped out. Hamill played the role so well that he received positive reviews for his performance, especially for the expressive laugh that Hamill developed specifically for his role and that became a trademark of the Joker in the series. Hamill played the role of the Joker, of whom he is a personal fan, throughout his appearances in the DC Animated Universe franchise, kicked off by the success of the animated series, in both Superman , Static Shock , Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker and The League of the Righteous . In an episode of the Justice League series ("Flash and Substance") he also speaks the role of the super villain Trickster, whom he embodied in the live-action series Flash - Der Rote Blitz . He also appeared again as the trickster in The Flash .
In March 2018, he received the 2,630th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame .
The German voice actor for Mark Hamill is usually Hans-Georg Panczak .
Private life
On December 17, 1978, Hamill married Marilou York, a dental hygienist. They have three children together: Nathan Hamill (born 1979), Griffin Hamill (born 1983) and Chelsea Hamill (born 1988).
Act
He embodied the character of Colonel Christopher Blair in the video sequences of the computer games Wing Commander Part 3 (Heart of the Tiger), Part 4 (The Price of Freedom) and Part 5 (Prophecy) . As a voice actor, he was always very active and is therefore one of the busiest ever. In LucasArts - Adventure Full Throttle , he spoke several characters, including the villain Ripburger . He also dubbed the main character Detective Mosley in the computer game series Gabriel Knight , the Joker in various Batman - animated series and computer games, Malefor in The Legend of Spyro and the villain Firelord Ozai in the Nick animated series Avatar - The Last Airbender . He also gives his voice to the sidekick The Observer in the action adventure Darksiders . In the video game X2: Wolverine's Revenge , he voiced the main character Wolverine .
Mark Hamill had a guest appearance with the Muppets (No. 89) and also with the Simpsons . There he appeared in the 10th season in the episode The Intrepid Bodyguard as an actor in his role in Star Wars . He had two other guest appearances as Tobias LeConte in the seaQuest episodes The blind seer (episode 37) and Hopeless Mission (episode 44). It is often mistakenly believed that he played the role of Luke Skywalker in Star Wars Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast and the subsequent Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy ; however, the character's voice comes from Bob Bergen .
He also played in the series Flash - The Red Flash (Episode 12 - The beautiful and the magician ) the insane magician "Trickster", who was obsessed with Flash's girlfriend. In the newer edition The Flash (Episode 17 - The return of the trickster ) he was seen again in this role.
Since 2016 he has lent his face and voice to the character Lt. Cmdr. Steve "Old Man" Colton in the single player offshoot of Star Citizen - Squadron42. According to Hamill's testimony, he took the job without reading the script because, he said , he blindly trusts the game's producer, Chris Roberts .
