Timothy James "Tim" Curry (born April 19, 1946 in Grappenhall, Warrington parish , England ) is a British actor , voice actor , singer and songwriter . He was best known for the role of Doctor Frank N. Furter on The Rocky Horror Picture Show from 1975.

Life

Tim Curry in 1946 in the English county of Cheshire born. The son of a Methodist chaplain, he studied drama and English in Cambridge and Birmingham . Curry celebrated his first success in 1968 with the musical Hair , where he met Richard O'Brien . The engagement was followed by employment at the Royal Shakespeare Company , the Glasgow Civic Repertory Company and the Royal Court Theater . In the latter, he first played the role of Richard O'Brien-created eccentric scientist Doctor Frank N. Furter on The Rocky Horror Show , which made him famous when Jim Sharman was made into The Rocky Horror Picture Show in 1975.

Numerous films followed, for example Stephen King's Es (1990), in which he can be seen as the demonic clown Pennywise. He also worked as a singer and composer and released four albums; the first Read My Lips (1978) contained the song Sloe Gin . The two single releases I Do the Rock and Paradise Garage from the album Fearless were able to place in the US charts the following year.

His concise voice was also in demand with producers of animated films and audio books . He also worked as a speaker in computer games such as Toonstruck or Gabriel Knight . In 2004 he played a guest role in the American crime series Monk ; In 2005 he appeared on Broadway in the musical Spamalot , which is based on the Monty Python film The Knights of the Coconut , on as King Arthur . From October 2006 to January 2007 he played this role at the Palace Theater in London's West End.

In 2008 he took on the role of the fictional Soviet Prime Minister Cherdenko for the real-life cutscenes in the computer game Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3 . A year later, Curry spoke to the Emperor Doviculus, the arch enemy of the main character Eddie Riggs (voiced by Jack Black ) in the video game Brütal Legend . He was also a voice actor for the role-playing game Dragon Age: Origins (2009). He also lent his voice - after the death of his predecessor Ian Abercrombie - the Sith Lord and political intriguer Palpatine in the computer-animated television series Star Wars: The Clone Wars .

Curry suffered a stroke in July 2012 from which he is slowly recovering. However, he has been in a wheelchair ever since. Tim Curry lives in Los Angeles.
