Captain Planet (Original: initially Captain Planet and the Planeteers , from 1993 finally The New Adventures of Captain Planet ) is an animated series invented by Ted Turner , which aims to make young people aware of environmental pollution and encourage them to behave in an environmentally friendly manner . The series ran from September 10, 1990 to 1993 and ended with the sale of the rights to broadcast the series on other television channels. 1993-1996 the series of Hanna-Barbera was continued under the title The New Adventures of Captain Planet . A series of toy action figures and vehicles were sold by Tiger Electronics in 1991-1994 .

Gaia , mother of earth, has been awakened from her long sleep by the wanton destruction of the people on planet earth . The realization that the earth is subject to ever more damage and destruction led her to create five magical rings, each of which is able to control one of the natural elements : earth, fire , wind and water as well as the element love .

Gaia sends the rings to five selected young people who come from different parts of the world: Kwame from Africa , Wheeler from North America , Lenka from Russia , Gi from Asia and Ma-Ti from South America . These five helpers of the earth form the "planet team". Your job is to protect the earth from disasters and do your best to avoid them. Gaia uses her eyesight to locate areas threatened with destruction and then sends the planetary team there to solve the problems. The planet team uses a solar powered mode of transport so that it does not cause pollution itself.

In some hopeless situations, which even the planet team cannot master, they combine and increase all their forces to summon Captain Planet . This has all the forces of the planetary team not only united, but also doubled in order to symbolize that combined forces are even stronger than the strength of each individual alone. Captain Planet has silver-blue skin and grass-green hair. He wears red gloves, boots, swimming trunks and epaulets with a yellow image of the earth on his chest. The colors of his clothes also represent the colors of the rings. (Green → earth, red → fire, silver → wind, blue → water and yellow → love). Like many other superheroes , he has superhuman powers and the ability to fly.

Despite its weak point, the pollution, Captain Planet is a feared and brave hero. When Captain Planet has done its job, it will return to Earth to recharge its powers. Before he does that, he always says his well-known saying: "You have the power!"

Characters

The planetary team is summoned by Gaia , a modern depiction of the ancient Greek goddess of fertility and planet earth , to protect the world from pollution , criminals and natural disasters . The five young people, who all come from different regions of the world, embody different ethnic groups . The magic rings given to them allow them to temporarily control the four classical elements (earth, fire , wind and water ) as well as a fifth element called " love " (which includes love, communication and telepathy ).

  • Kwame : origin Africa . He possesses the power of the earth and is the first in the sequence to summon Captain Planet with the ring. He is 16 years old, has dark brown hair and dark brown eyes. He has a soft spot for plants and trees. Kwame grew up in a tribe in his home village in Africa. He is one with the country and the surrounding area and does everything to protect and preserve them. He is secretly considered the leader of the planetary team and embodies the voice of reason and keeps the team under control in difficult situations.
  • Wheeler : Origin North America ( Brooklyn, New York ). He has the power of fire and is second in order to summon Captain Planet using the ring. He is 17 years old, has red hair and light blue eyes. Wheeler is the oldest of the troop, but doesn't necessarily have a lot of knowledge about protecting and preserving the earth and the environment. He's the team's nice, laid-back joker and although his heart is in the right place, he often gets into some tricky situations. He and Lenka develop a special relationship with each other right at the beginning of the series. Their know-it-all rebukes are the cover of their real affection for one another. His compassion and fighting spirit make Wheeler the backbone of the team.
  • Lenka : Origin Russia in the German version; Soviet Union and later Eastern Europe in the original English version. Lenka is in the original English version L i posted nka and pronounced. She has the power of the wind and is the third in the order to summon Captain Planet with the ring. She is 16 years old, has blonde hair and blue eyes. However, in later episodes of the series, her eye color was changed to green. She has a fondness for birds and studies ornithology. She is a master of strategy and logic and a computer expert. Lenka is very factual and her good common sense helps solve problems in many critical moments. At times, she tends to reciprocate or even seem to enjoy Wheeler's advances. However, she hardly shows this and is therefore often unimpressed and annoyed by him.
  • Gi : Origin Asia . East Asia in the German version . She has the power of water and is the fourth in sequence to summon Captain Planet using the ring. She is 16 years old, has black and blue hair and light brown eyes. Gi is a self-proclaimed marine biologist. Their love for animals, but especially for marine animals, contributes to the common awareness of the planet team to protect a wide variety of animal species and species.
