Robert Dean Stockwell (born March 5, 1936 in North Hollywood , California ) is an American actor .

Acting career

Dean Stockwell was born to the actor couple Harry Stockwell and Elizabeth Veronica Stockwell. He started acting as a child. In 1945, 10-year-old Stockwell played his first leading role in the Hollywood musical Vacation in Hollywood alongside Frank Sinatra and Gene Kelly . In 1947 he was the son of Gregory Peck in the Oscar-winning film Tabu der Gerechten , which earned him a Golden Globe Award in the category of best young actor . This was followed by the role of Nick Charles Jr., the son of William Powell and Myrna Loy , in the crime comedy The Song of the Thin Man (1947) and the title role in The Boy With Green Hair (1948), the feature film directorial debut by Joseph Losey . In 1950 he played the title role alongside Errol Flynn in the adventure film Kim - Secret Service in India, based on the novel by Rudyard Kipling . In the 1950s Stockwell gained experience as a stage actor, for example in a number of Broadway plays. Stockwell then played high-profile supporting roles in numerous Hollywood films, including as a scientist in the science fiction film The Desert Planet (1984), as a seedy shooting club manager in the action comedy Beverly Hills Cop II (1987) alongside Eddie Murphy , and as a judge Harvey Hale in Francis Ford Coppola's film adaptation of The Rainmaker (1997). In 1984, he played the worried brother of the missing Harry Dean Stanton in Wim Wenders ' classic film Paris, Texas . Stockwell is also an accomplished artist who created photographs and collages in the style of his friend Wallace Berman . As a friend of the musician Neil Young , he designed the cover for the album American Stars' n Bars . He also wrote the template for the title track of Young's 1970 album After the Gold Rush , which was actually a script draft for a film.

His older brother Guy Stockwell (1934-2002) was also an actor. Dean Stockwell was married twice. He married his first wife, Millie Perkins , on April 15, 1960, and they divorced two years later without children. In 1981 he married Joy Marchenko, who was divorced again in 2004. The marriage had two children: Austin (* 1983), Sophia (* 1985).
