Maurice LaMarche
Maurice LaMarche (born March 30, 1958 in Toronto ) is a Canadian voice actor and stand-up comedian . He gained international fame through his synchronization of Kif Kroker in the animated series Futurama , for which he won the Emmy for best speaker twice in a row.
Life
Maurice LaMarche was born in Toronto , Ontario and soon after moved his family to Timmins . It wasn't until the end of his high school days that the cartoon-crazy teenager discovered his comic talent at a school party when he was performing a skit for the best.
At 19, he tried his hand at an open mic event in New York City for the first time . Other Canadian comedians advised him not to try any further.
Three years later, LaMarche moved to Los Angeles nonetheless and continued to try his hand at stand-up. LaMarche performed in the United States for the next five years and had initial successes. He performed with Merv Griffin and An Evening At The Improv . In 1985 he recorded on the HBO production Rodney Dangerfield Hosts the 9th Annual Young Comedians Special , with Bob Saget , Rita Rudner , Louie Anderson , Yakov Smirnoff and Sam Kinison (who made his debut).
LaMarche has opened events and concerts by Rodney Dangerfield , George Carlin , Howie Mandel , David Sanborn and Donna Summer , mostly in Las Vegas and Atlantic City .
On March 9, 1987, LaMarche's father was murdered by one of his best friends. The killer shot LaMarche's father in a hotel lobby in Toronto in front of dozens of witnesses. LaMarche subsequently suffered from depression and alcoholism . In 1989, after rehab, he started a comeback as a stand-up. But just as he was starting to be successful again, his 18-year-old sister died in a car accident. After this stroke of fate, he ended his stand-up career.
After 1989 he tried himself as a voice actor . He had his first roles in Dennis , Popeye, Son and Co. and The Real Ghostbusters . The latter was his breakthrough and from then on he dubbed well-known series such as Tiny Toon Adventure , GI Joe: A Real American Hero , Attack of the Killer Tomatoes , Ariel, the Mermaid and Bonkers, the cunning lynx of Hollywood . In 1993 he took on one of his most famous roles: the intelligent super mouse The Brain from the Animaniacs series . He also appeared in the spin-off Pinky and the Brain as well as Pinky, Elmyra and the Brain . He won an Annie Award and was nominated for an Emmy for his dubbing of The Brain .
This was followed by The Critic , in which he dubbed no fewer than 29 characters in one episode. It was followed by Freakazoid! and The Tick before he acted again as Egon in Extreme Ghostbusters . Another recurring role was Mortimer Mouse in New Mickey Mouse Stories and Mickey's Clubhouse .
In 1999 he started as Kif Kroker and Calculon in the series Futurama and also dubbed The Simpsons , including an Orson Welles parody.
Maurice LaMarche won the Emmy twice in a row in the category Outstanding Voice-Over Performance in 2011 and 2012 .
