Ralph rich (English original title: Wreck-It Ralph ) is an American animated film and the 52nd full-length animated film by the Walt Disney Company . It made its cinema debut in North America on November 2, 2012 and was released in theaters in Germany, Austria and Switzerland on December 6. The Disney film was animated in 3-D Disney Digital format . It was directed by Rich Moore , who previously directed The Simpsons and Futurama . The central theme of the film is the life of video game characters behind the scenes. In 2018 the sequel came to the cinema under the title Chaos im Netz .

action

The protagonist of "rampage Ralph" is not satisfied after 30 years with his role as a villain in the 8-bit era - arcade game "Fix-It Felix Jr." because it is marginalized after work from the other characters. After a meeting of the self-help group "Anonymous villains" within the Pacman maze, he meets a burned-out soldier from the first person shooter Hero’s Duty in the bartender game Tapper . He smuggles himself into the strange science fiction game in order to get hold of the hero medal actually intended for the player and thus impress Felix and the other characters. At first overwhelmed by the gloomy surroundings and the hectic game mechanics, he climbs up the tower to be stormed during a game break and receives the hero medal, which is presented to him by the holographic military in honorary formation. He accidentally damages an egg of the "Cy-Bugs" to be fought and flies into the cute kart racing game "Sugar Rush" with an escape pod. In doing so, it initially seems to get rid of the beetle, which later turns out to be a mistake, since the beetles behave like a computer virus due to their simple programming and multiply without being noticed.

While trying to get his lost medal back, Ralph meets Vanellope von Schweetz, who steals his medal without further ado and uses it as a bet for qualifying for the selection screen of the next match day. Since Vanellope, as a programming error ( glitch ), is also an outsider and, like Ralph, suffers from exclusion, they join forces to bake a racing car in an integrated mini-game and to train for the upcoming race.

In the meantime, Fix-It Felix Jr. is looking for his missing opponent, because otherwise the defective game "Fix-It Felix Jr." is threatened with shutdown. Meanwhile, the female sergeant Calhoun from Hero's Duty tries to track down the escaped robotic insect in front of the egg-laying and is unimpressed by the failed attempts at flirting by Felix. Vanellope competes in the race, with King Candy ultimately emerging as the jealous Turbo who, after his technically inferior racing game lost popularity, manipulated the programming of competing motorsport games. Vanellope can defeat him in the race, but the world is overrun by the beetle infestation and has to be evacuated. So it comes to a showdown between Ralph and the now mutated Turbo. In a final effort, Ralph deliberately destroys a hilltop under which there is a stalactite cave full of mentos . The fall of the Mentos stalactites into the hot Cola lake leads to a brightly shining geyser , which acts like an electric insect killer on the insects, including the turbo . A reset of the game reveals that Vanellope is the real main character of the racing game. It also becomes clear that " glitching " is a special ability of hers .

Ralph returns to his original game. He accepts his role, but makes sure that all homeless characters from discarded retro games get a home in the game world of Fix-It Felix Jr. and are integrated into a bonus level. The film ends with a wedding between Felix and Sergeant Calhoun. Ralph and Vanellope, who can now leave the game, are groomsmen.

Reviews

The German film critics praised the creative ideas with their numerous cross-references to video game history, which, in addition to the humorous story, make the film a family film that spans generations . The editors of the computer game magazine GameStar feared that some word games would be difficult to translate from English.

“With this animated film, director Rich Moore [...] definitely proves his talent for the comic. He dives into the world of video games with a bizarre joke and gives their characters a life of their own beyond the games. Great ideas, lots of funny details and a lot of gags ensure fun entertainment. Only the bad songs - this was confused with charming in keeping with the times - reduce the enjoyment. "

"A pointed, confidently staged 3D animated film for the whole family, which uses the lovingly crafted plot visually and dramatically to impale the curse of ever faster technology."

“Ralph Enough is an all-round successful animation film for the whole family. Children will have fun with the simple story, likeable characters, witty ideas and imaginative settings, older semesters will enjoy the numerous allusions to classics from the world of video games and slot machines. "

The German Film and Media Assessment (FBW) awarded the film the title “particularly valuable”. From the jury's statement:

“The makers of RALPH REICHT'S succeeded in this feat. An intelligent script, the implementation of which has been placed in the best hands, results in perfect cinema entertainment at the highest level. Surprisingly, you don't have to know or like the video games picked up to succumb to the charm of the film. This is due to the fact that the simplest pixel figures are condensed into real characters who, despite all the reality in movement and exterior, always remain located in their possibilities. And as is so often the case in this CGI league, the story is again peppered with movie quotes that will delight the heart of the cinema buff. […] RALPH REICHT'S is the technically perfect implementation of an actually small idea, which was expanded from an always exciting and humorous script to a feature length film. And despite all the visual size and the brightly colored fireworks of ideas and action, there is a special feature in the lovable charm that the film retains. "

Allusions

The name of the defective player avatar ("glitch") is also computer gamer jargon . You can also hear the heavy breathing typical of Darth Vader when Ralph flees from King Candy's guards .

With the help of the Konami code on an NES controller, King Candy can gain access to the program logic and manipulate the game in his favor.

The combination of Mentos and Cola to make fountains became popular thanks to YouTube videos.
