action

Bolt is the leading actor in a popular television series of the same name. In this series, he's a super dog with incredible powers that he regularly uses to save Penny, a 13-year-old girl who is Bolt's loving owner in both the series and real life. Opponents are Dr. Calico, the "green-eyed man", and its organization. Bolt has played his role on the show all his life, so he believes the sets, adventures and powers are real. In order to improve the audience rating of the series, Penny is kidnapped at the end of the season - Bolt of course also believes this is reality.

By an unfortunate coincidence, Bolt escapes from the set shortly afterwards , falls into a package and is sent from Hollywood across the USA to New York City . There he realizes that all his powers no longer work, but blames this on sabotage. In town he meets Mittens, a street cat whom he considers to be an accomplice of the evil organization, as his opponents are always surrounded by cats in the series. He takes her prisoner and sets off on a journey to save his owner. On the way, Mittens realizes that Bolt's strange behavior is based on his mistaken belief and tries to explain to him what initially fails. Together they meet Dino (in the original Rhino), a TV-obsessed hamster who spends his life in a jogging ball and adores Bolt's series; he also considers them real. After some turbulent adventures, Bolt realizes that his previous life was only an illusion and, with Mittens' help, begins to learn and enjoy the joys of a normal dog life - only his friendship with Penny remains real to him.

So he continues his search and ends up back in Hollywood, where he finds that he has been replaced by a double . Shortly before giving up, his new friends convince him that Penny misses him and that he only saw the recording of a film scene with the double. An accident with the inexperienced replacement dog causes the set to catch fire and Penny is caught in the inferno . Bolt manages to save her at the risk of his life. Bolt and his family then quit their job in the film business. They move to the outskirts of town with their new friends Mittens and Dino and have a good life together.

reception

“Fast, funny and entertaining, the animated film from Disney fulfills expectations. A puppy that challenges the predicate 'süüüüß' serves as an optical bonus. 'Bolt' offers lovely family entertainment - also in a 3D version. "

- Julia Evers, Upper Austrian News

To celebrate the release gave German Tierschutzbund a press release entitled "Disney movie shows dangerous hamster toys" out stating the that hamster balls as they used the hamster "Dino", no animal-friendly pose toys and are against animal protection. The Veterinary Association for Animal Welfare also describes hamster balls as violating animal welfare and the Zentralverband Zoologischer Fachverband Deutschlands e. V. writes in its publication dangerous accessories for pets : "The products do not meet the requirements of § 2 TSchG". In addition, as a direct reaction to the film, various animal welfare associations made similar statements. The Internet platform “DieBrain”, well-known among animal owners, carried out the nationwide campaign “Action against Hamster Balls” in order to counteract the spread of hamster balls through the Disney film. The WDR also reported in the program Animals are looking for a home about the possible negative effects of the film and explains the dangers of hamster balls.
