List of Disney films

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is an overview of the film productions of the Walt Disney Company ( WDC ).

Silly Symphonies films

Cinema productions of the "Masterpieces" series

Most of the cinema productions are listed by the WDC as "Walt Disney Masterpieces" for marketing reasons, including the 58 animated films made by Walt Disney Animation Studios so far . Films for television series ( e.g. Goofy - Der Film ), real-life films with short cartoon parts ( e.g. Mary Poppins ) or films produced for the video market (e.g. The Lion King 2 ) do not officially belong in this series . Some of them actually have a film historical significance, such as Fantasia from 1940 ( the first full-length animated film that put music in the foreground ).

Since 2005, the computer-animated films produced by Disney have also been included in the list, the first being Heaven and Chicken , which is counted as the 46th masterpiece .

In 2009, the Disney film Dinosaurs was subsequently included in the official canon, so that all other films in this series are moved back one number.

In Germany, however, the remaining Disney cartoons as well as mixed real-life and cartoon films are often sold on VHS and DVD as masterwork , which is why the term has not become so well established in Germany.

In 2017, the German release of the Disney Classics Collection began, which had already appeared in other countries in previous years. The collection includes films from Walt Disney Animation Studios. With the publication, the previous “moratorium” strategy was abandoned. The films appeared in a uniform design on DVD and Blu-ray, with a total of nine films only being released on DVD. However, Blu-ray versions of some of them exist in other countries. In the German-speaking area, the film Make Mine Music was removed from the Classics series and not released. Even if Tierisch Wild appeared in the fourth wave of Elfer in January 2018, it is not part of the masterpiece series, as the film does not count as a masterpiece in the USA and was produced by another animation studio.
