Descendants 2 - The Descendants

Descendants 3 - The Descendants , or Descendants 3 for short , is an American television movie directed by Kenny Ortega from 2019. It is the sequel to the films Descendants - The Descendants (2015) and Descendants 2 - The Descendants (2017). Dove Cameron (Mal), Sofia Carson (Evie), Booboo Stewart (Jay), Cameron Boyce (Carlos), Mitchell Hope (Ben) and China Anne McClain (Uma) again star in the Disney Channel Original Movie . The film premiered on August 2, 2019 on Disney Channel . The German premiere took place on March 13, 2020 on the Disney Channel .

Mal, Evie, Jay and Carlos visit the Isle of the Lost to choose four new Rogue Children (VKs) to be brought to Auradon. They choose Dizzy, daughter of Drizella and granddaughter of Lady Tremaine, Celia, daughter of Dr. Facilier, and Squeaky and Squirmy, the twin sons of Mr. Smee. On the day the children are to be picked up, Ben, Mal's friend and King of Auradon, proposes marriage to her. She accepts; Ben's ex-girlfriend Audrey is seething with jealousy, and her grandmother Queen Leah admonishes her that she failed to secure the family legacy by marrying Ben.

When the barrier is opened for the new VKs, Hades, the god of the underworld, tries to escape, but Mal strikes him back in her dragon form. That night, unable to curb her jealousy at Mal, Audrey steals the Queen's Crown and Scepter of Maleficent from the Museum of Cultural History. The theft and the attempt to escape from Hades panic citizens. Mal, as the future queen, decides that the best way to protect the subjects and restore peace is to permanently close the barrier, which means that no new VKs can come and no one can enter the island.

Audrey attacks Mal with the scepter of Maleficent, turning her into an old witch. Mal and the other VKs go to the island to get the embers of Hades, the only thing strong enough to break the scepter's curse. By suppressing the evil magic on the island, Mal is restored upon entering the island. Celia takes Mal to the cave of Hades, but he thwarts her efforts to steal the embers. He turns out to be Mal's absent father and reluctantly gives her the glow, with the warning that she must not get wet and will not show her full power. On leaving the island, Mal and the others are stopped by Uma, Gil and Harry, who take the embers with them; they agree to help after Mal agrees to release all the children from the island.

In Auradon, Audrey attacks Jane's birthday party with a sleeping curse; Chad tunes in to Audrey, while Jane flees to the Enchanted Lake. When the entire kingdom falls under Audrey's spell, she offers to undo him if Ben wants to marry her; he refuses, so she turns him into a beast and starts turning people to stone. Mal and Uma, vying to lead the VKs, return to Auradon with their friends. Despite their bickering, they defeat armor animated by Audrey and return to Auradon with their friends. Uma finds Audrey's diary and learns she's spending time at Fairy Cottage, a contribution for which Mal thanks her. Evie, nervous about defining her feelings for Doug, wakes him up with a "kiss of true love". Carlos calms Ben in animal form until Jane restores him with seawater. While Mal and Uma begin to thaw, Audrey traps them in Evie's house; they undo Audrey's spells by combining their magic, and they all come back together there.

In the fairy hut they only find a shell-shocked Chad. When Mal admits that she intends to permanently seal off the island, the group implodes, and Celia, learning that she will never see her father again, throws the embers into a bird bath and Uma and Harry disappear. After Evie tells Mal how upset she was about lying to her and her friends, all but Mal are suddenly turned to stone. Audrey takes Celia hostage and attacks Mal, who transforms into her dragon form. When Uma realizes she is Mal's only hope, she combines her magic to rekindle the embers; Mal defeats Audrey who falls into a coma and the curses are lifted. The embers could revive Audrey, but only in the hands of Hades; Ben agrees to send for him while Uma, Harry, Gil and Celia plan to return to the island. Mal apologizes for the lie; her friends and former rivals forgive her, understanding that she was just trying to do the right thing. Hades arrives and revives Audrey, but rejects the double standards that instantly forgive Audrey for not counting as a villain. Mal and Ben apologize to Audrey; in response, Audrey and Queen Leah apologize to Mal.

Mal proclaims that she cannot be the Queen of Auradon unless she can also be the Queen of the Island because everyone is capable of being good and bad. With the approval of Ben and the fairy godmother, Mal removes the barrier and creates a bridge, and the people of the newly merged society celebrate. Also, Jane and Carlos get official, Mal and Ben get engaged, and Audrey has eyes for Harry (after Uma turned him down).

In the opening credits, you see Mal, Evie, Jay and Carlos looking at the island of the lost and then racing over the bridge to their parents.

Production and Background

On February 16, 2018, the Disney Channel announced the sequel Descendants 3 - The Descendants with a teaser trailer during the broadcast of the Disney Channel Original Movies Zombies . Kenny Ortega is again in charge of the direction and the choreography . As in the two previous films, the script was written by Josann McGibbon and Sara Parriott . Mark Hofeling and Kara Saun return as production designers and costume designers respectively for the sequel.

With the sequel announced, the return of Dove Cameron , Sofia Carson , Cameron Boyce , Booboo Stewart , Mitchell Hope and China Anne McClain was also confirmed. On April 20, 2018, the return of Sarah Jeffery , Thomas Doherty and Dylan Playfair was announced. On May 22, 2018 Cheyenne Jackson for the role of Hades cast. In addition to the role of Dr. Facilier also serves Jamal Sims as choreographer of the film together with Ortega.

Rehearsals and pre-recordings for the film began on April 23, 2018 in Vancouver . The shooting took place between May 25th and July 18th 2018.

On September 28, 2018, a 10-minute special Unter dem Meer: Eine Descendants Story (Under the Sea: A Descendants Short Story) was broadcast on the station, which takes place between the second and the third part. She first appeared on Disney + in Germany, Austria and Switzerland .

There should have been a big film premiere on July 22, 2019. This was canceled after the death of Cameron Boyce . Disney then announced that the film will be dedicated to Cameron Boyce.

Reaching Descendants 3 - The descendants of the highest number of audience of Disney Channel Original Movies in 2019 and the highest number of audience Disney Channel since Descendants 2 - The descendants . The film was viewed approximately 8.43 million times in the first three days of its first broadcast. The DVD release in the US took place on August 6, 2019.
