Descendants 2 - The Descendants (Original title: Descendants 2 ) is an American television film by Kenny Ortega from 2017 and the sequel to the film Descendants - The Descendants from 2015. The main roles have again Dove Cameron (Mal), Sofia Carson (Evie), Booboo Stewart (Jay), Cameron Boyce (Carlos) and Mitchell Hope (Ben). In the Disney Channel Original Movie , Mal, Evie, Carlos and Jay return to the Isle of the Lost to meet Uma (played by China Anne McClain), who wants to unleash the bad guys on humanity. The film was first broadcast on July 21, 2017 on the Disney Channel as well as on ABC , Disney XD , Freeform and Lifetime .

Mal struggles with her new celeb life as King Ben's girlfriend, getting her hair blonde and maintaining a princess-like personality that she's uncomfortable with. She admits her problems with her friends Evie, Carlos and Jay, but they are happy with their new life in Auradon and do not want to return to the island. Evie scolds Mal for relying on her mother's spellbook to solve her problems. Carlos, about to ask Jane for the upcoming cotillion dance, turns to Mal to help her be honest with her. Mal gives him a candy that will make him tell the truth, but his dog Dude eats it and can speak from now on.

Ben eventually discovers that Mal relies on magic and she comes in because of her insecurities, which leads to the two of them arguing. Mal returns to the island that is now ruled by her former enemy Uma, Ursula's daughter, along with Harry and Gil, the sons of Captain Hook and Gaston. Mal hair stylist visits Dizzy Tremaine, Drizella's daughter, who is restoring her signature purple hair, and says that she finds Mal's blonde hair unnatural. Harry discovers that Mal has returned and informs Uma.

Ben, Evie, Jay and Carlos find out about Mal's departure and sneak onto the island to find her, but Gil recognizes them. Ben confronts Mal, who rejects his feelings for what she believes is his will and Auradons. Ben is captured by Uma, who orders Mal and her friends to bring her the fairy's wand or she will kill Ben. Carlos and Jay return to Auradon Prep, where they create a replica of the wand using a 3D printer. They are caught by Lonnie, Mulan's daughter, who blackmails them to let them come after she was previously rejected by Jay's sports team based on her gender. Uma speaks to Ben, sad that she and the others were not selected to go to Auradon. Ben takes that into consideration and invites her to Auradon, but Uma plans to go her own way there instead. Mal's group comes back and hands over the wrong wand in exchange for Ben, but Uma realizes it's a fake. The group flees back to Auradon, but Mal and Ben's relationship is still on the rocks. The villain's children come to the conclusion that they cannot escape their past and are ready to be honest with themselves and one another. Carlos confesses his love to Jane but struggles a little while Jay names Lonnie as his crew captain.

On board a ship during the Cotillion, Ben shakes everyone when he shows up with Uma, whom he declares his true love and announces that he will destroy the barrier on the island. Jane reveals a stained glass painting that Ben commissioned to show his affection for Mal, who realizes he loves her for who she is. When it becomes clear that Uma gave him a love potion, Mal confesses her love for Ben, kisses him and breaks the spell. When she is angry, Uma jumps into the water and transforms into a sea witch with Ursula's magical shell. Mal fights and transforms into a dragon. Ben intervenes and ends the fight and Uma returns the ring Ben originally gave her when he declared his true love and swims away, although her offer is still pending.

Mal and Ben meet again and Mal hands over her magic book to the fairy. Evie asks Dizzy to go to Auradon Prep. When she receives the offer, Dizzy immediately accepts it.

In a post-credit scene, Uma addresses the audience and promises the story isn't over yet.

A second part was announced at the D23 Expo 2015. This was officially confirmed in June 2016. The script was written by Josann McGibbon and Sara Parriott, while Kenny Ortega took the director's seat again. Dove Cameron , Sofia Carson , Booboo Stewart , Cameron Boyce , Mitchell Hope , Brenna D'Amico , Jedidiah Goodacre , Zachary Gibson , Dianne Doan and Kristin Chenoweth slip into the role from the first part. China Anne McClain , who already took on a dubbing role in the television series Descendants - Verhexte Welt , was cast for the role of Uma , the daughter of Ursula from Arielle the Mermaid . Thomas Doherty received the role of Captain Hook's son , Harry Hook . Shortly before the film was released, it was announced that Whoopi Goldberg would speak the voice of Ursula.

Filming began in Vancouver in September 2016 .

The film reached a total of 8.92 million viewers on its premiere day. In the first few days after it first aired, the film was viewed approximately 21 million times. The DVD release in the USA followed on August 15, 2017.

Germany

The German premiere took place on September 3, 2017 on Disney Cinemagic . The free TV premiere took place on October 15, 2017 on ProSieben .
