Seal Island is an American documentary film from 1948. The film is part of the Disney series A True-Life Adventure .

The film describes the life of the fur seals on a small island in the Bering Sea . The viewer will witness bull fur seals marking out their territory on the island and waiting for the females there. The harem of the bulls is growing, the care of the young is described. The island's other animal species, especially the enormous number of birds, are also described.

The film was shot on the Pribilof Islands north of the Aleutian Islands in the Bering Sea. It premiered on December 21, 1948 in Pasadena , California . The general release was only on May 4, 1949. For producer Walt Disney it was the first of a series of documentaries.
Awards
In 1949 the film won an Oscar in the Best Short Film (Two-Reel) category. At the Cannes International Film Festival in 1949 , the film won a prize for best short film ( Prix pour le sujet - court métrage ). In 1951 there was a nomination for the British Film Academy Award for best documentary.
