action

Nonnie Parker is a 14-year-old girl who lives with her parents on a farm on the edge of the Kalahari Desert in South Africa . She admires the gamekeeper Mopani Theron, with whom she often travels the steppe and who one day prevents a group of poachers from killing a herd of elephants. One day Nonnie meets New York city boy Harry Winslow, who is about the same age and who is on vacation with his father on the farm. The two youngsters don't understand each other at first. While Harry is a typical city person, withdrawn and has nothing to do with the nature of the desert, Nonnie is more open-minded about life. When the two youngsters are sitting around the campfire with the San Xhabbo one evening, the farm is attacked by poachers who were once prevented from poaching by Mohpani. The farm is burned down, and both Nonnie's parents and Harry's father are killed. The poachers, whose leader is John Ricketts, discover the presence of the children. They have to flee and therefore decide to go to the next town with the help of the San Xhabbo. However, this means a forced march of over 2000 kilometers across the Kalahari. Two initially different characters have to put their differences aside on the journey and try to survive together.
