Hard Rain is a 1998 American action film starring Christian Slater and Morgan Freeman .
action
Heavy rains caused the water level to rise and the small town of Huntingburg had to be evacuated. The city has now become a ghost town with very few people left. Now, of all times, the money transporter with all the surrounding cash gets stuck there. The drivers Tom and his uncle Charlie call for help, but only the aging crook Jim and his troops come.
When Charlie is shot in an exchange of fire, Tom goes on the run with the money. He hides the three million dollars and a little later gives himself a chase with the gangsters. Tom escapes for the time being and looks for shelter in a church. The restorer Karen, who is still working there, knocks down the alleged looter and calls the sheriff . Tom tells him about the money, but his colleague doesn't believe him and they lock him in a cell. When the water continues to rise, Karen is able to free Tom from his completely flooded cell at the last moment.
When Tom takes a boat back to his transporter to wait for the requested reinforcements, Jim reappears and blackmails Tom to show him the hiding place. But the sheriff also wants big money and shoots Jim's team. Tom and Jim save themselves and form an emergency partnership against the sheriff and his helpers; they manage to keep their opponent in check. But Tom has to rush to help Karen, who is tied to the stairs of her house and threatens to drown in the tidal wave of the broken dam. In the end, the sheriff and his people die, and Jim makes off with a small part of the money. Tom, however, is waiting for the police with Karen.
criticism
“Frosty, clammy action drama in which the plot and the disaster scenario are more or less stringently linked. Despite the appealing actors, the content of the torrential disaster atmosphere is not deepened, so that the film primarily offers routine entertainment. "
The German Film and Media Evaluation FBW in Wiesbaden awarded the film the title valuable.
