Richard Dysart (born March 30, 1929 in Boston , Massachusetts , † April 5, 2015 in Santa Monica , California ) was an American film and television actor . He starred in the television series L.A. Law - Star Lawyers, Tricks, Trials , which aired from 1986 to 1994.

Life

Richard Dysart grew up in Augusta, Maine and served four years in the US Air Force during the Korean War . He was a founding member of the American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco and a member of the Phi Alpha Tau student union at Emerson College in Boston , Massachusetts . Dysart died on April 5, 2015 at the age of 86 at his home in Santa Monica, California of complications from cancer.

Awards

In an issue of EGG magazine, a scene from the LA Law series was listed as the 38th greatest moment on television. It was a scene in which the character he portrayed, Leland McKenzie, patriarchal representative of a stiff and successful law enforcement, was caught in bed with his competitor Rosalind Shays ( Diana Muldaur ).

In 1972 Dysart received a Drama Desk Award and in 1992 an Emmy Award.
