The Bomb is an American television film from 1989. It deals with the Manhattan Project , the secret development of the first atomic bomb by the Allies in World War II. Directed by Joseph Sargent , Brian Dennehy as General Leslie Groves , David Strathairn as Dr. J. Robert Oppenheimer and Michael Tucker as Dr. To see Leo Szilard .

The film is first told from the perspective of Leo Szilard , who emigrated from Hungary and who fled Europe to the United States, where he is involved in the Manhattan project , the development of an atomic bomb . It also shows how scientists, the military and politicians feel about whether and how the new, devastating technology should be used. The film ends with President Harry S. Truman deciding to use the bomb in the war against Japan and to drop it on the city of Hiroshima .
