The Falcon and the Snowman ( The Falcon and the Snowman ) is an American film drama from the year 1985 that the true history of the American Christopher John Boyce and Andrew Daulton Lee , deals with the CIA -Information to the Soviet Union sold. Christopher Boyce, whose hobby is the scavenger hunt , is professionally responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of documents relating to arms deliveries in a company. From one of the documents he learns about the secret activities of the Central Intelligence Agency , which upset him. Boyce and his friend Daulton Lee, who needs money because of his drug addiction, decide to sell the information they have received to the Soviet Union . They use Lee's contacts among the drug smugglers and Lee travels to Mexico City , where he turns to the Soviet embassy.

The Soviets are trying to get more secrets from Boyce, such as the frequencies of satellite communications. Boyce says he wants to quit and go to college, whereupon the Soviet secret agent gives advice to study Russian and apply to the CIA . He emphasizes that the cooperation is not over, it is only just beginning .

Boyce procures the requested frequencies, for which he wants to get 100,000 US dollars. However, the transaction no longer occurs. Lee is arrested outside the embassy; the Mexican police mistakenly mistake him for a terrorist who killed a police officer. Lee is tortured and eventually admits he is a spy. He is extradited to the Americans at the state border.

Boyce returns to the United States, where he says goodbye to his girlfriend Lana and releases his hawk. Shortly thereafter, he was arrested. Lee is sentenced to life imprisonment, Boyce to 40 years imprisonment.

Reviews

Roger Ebert wrote in the Chicago Sun-Times of January 25, 1985 that one of the movie's many strengths is that it shows the motivations of the two young men. It is not a spy thriller in the usual sense.

The lexicon of international films said: "After authentic events in atmospherically dense scenes, staged black comedy that is less interested in the crime and espionage case than in the loss of values ​​and the problems of the lies and the political disillusionment of a nation."
