Wulf-Dieter Geyer (born March 14, 1939 in Berlin ; † November 10, 2019 in Erlangen ) was a German mathematician . The focus of his scientific work was on algebraic geometry and algebraic number theory . He was a director at the Mathematical Institute of the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg .

Geyer studied mathematics and physics at the universities in Berlin and Tübingen from 1957 . In 1964 he obtained his diploma in mathematics in Tübingen, where he was an assistant. In 1968 he received his doctorate in Tübingen under Peter Roquette ( infinite algebraic number fields, over which every equation can be solved with a limited level ). He then worked as a research assistant in Heidelberg until 1972 . A visiting professorship in 1968/69 took him to Canada (Kingston). Finally, in February 1972, he accepted an appointment at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg.

He dealt mainly with algebraic geometry and algebraic number theory.

Since 1994 he has been a full member of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences .
