Mikael Salomon (born February 24, 1945 in Copenhagen , Denmark ) is a Danish cameraman , film director , film producer and visual effects artist with activities in Hollywood.

biography

Born and raised in Denmark, Salomon began his work in Scandinavia and was behind the camera on around 50 films until he moved to Hollywood in the mid-1980s . Initially working as a cameraman for Amblin Entertainment , he quickly switched to the director's chair and from 1993 directed both feature films and television series.

His best-known works as a cameraman include the horror film Arachnophobia, produced in 1990, and the action film Backdraft - Men Who Walk Through Fire, directed just one year later in 1991 . In 1990 he was nominated for an Oscar for the first time - in the category Best Cinematography - for his work on Abyss .

Salomon received his second Oscar nomination in 1992 for his first and so far only work in the field of visual effects . It was backdraft , in which he not only acted as a cameraman but also as a computer animator, and for which Salomon was nominated in the category Best Visual Effects along with Allen Hall , Clay Pinney and Scott Farrar .

In terms of direction, the action film Hard Rain, produced in 1998, is probably Salomon's best-known work, followed by work on television series such as Band of Brothers - We Were Like Brothers or Rome . As a director he was involved in more than 40 productions.

Mikael Salomon has been married to the American assistant director Nancy Blewer since January 22, 2000 . Daughter Katrine Salomon , who is a well-known television journalist in Denmark, comes from an earlier relationship that had already existed in Denmark .
