content

Julius, Richard and Anne spend the holidays with their cousin Georgina, called Georg. But the get-together turns out to be rather boring, because Uncle Quentin has to prepare for a congress and so he has forbidden to romp around and play football. Nothing should disturb him. Condemned to rest, the four children lie with Georg's shepherd dog Tim on the lawn in the garden of the house. Bored they think about what to do on vacation. The suggestion “to go swimming” is rejected with boredom. The second suggestion to row to the island is immediately rejected because of the spreading heat and the physical exertion that can be expected when rowing. Anne's suggestion for a bike tour is enthusiastically received after a brief back and forth and the rousing idea that she should take tents with her. After they have persuaded their uncle and aunt to allow such a longer bicycle tour through the country, preparations begin. The maid Johanna helps. But the old equipment from the attic has become unusable. The camping equipment needs to be replaced. The five friends buy new bicycles, sleeping bags and a four-man tent from a dealer, which the uncle donates. After stowing the new equipment on the bikes, they set off.

The bike tour begins in an unspectacular and contemplative manner with a "holiday song". The landscape passes the children. The German shepherd Tim runs along quickly. In a village they buy ice cream. Anne, who had promised her aunt before she left that she would eat properly and not spend all the money on sweets and cakes, also treats herself to an ice cream. The children sit down on the steps of the ice cream shop with Tim at their feet. When a vagabond passes by, blowing a small Danish flag on the wagon he was carrying, Tim, who was lying on the ground a short time earlier and licking his ice cream, is startled. He begins to bark and chases the peddler away. Shortly afterwards, Anne wants to splash her brother Richard with water, but she misses him and instead meets an innocent woman who comes out of the shop. The friends quickly break off their rest and continue cycling. At the end of the day they pitch their tent at a swimming lake for the night.

The next morning they are woken up by Hardy Kent, who is the same age and turns out to be the son of a millionaire. He joins the friends on their bike tour and so the journey continues. As the day before, the children take a short break to eat ice cream, but then they drive on. Soon after, Hardy falls on his bike. Before the journey continues, Richard chatters Hardy off his new T-shirt. Richard immediately takes off his old shirt, puts on the new Hardy T-shirt with the number twenty-one printed on it, and gives Hardy the old shirt. A little later they set up camp in a forest. But then it happens, suddenly two men appear who grab Richard, whom they mistakenly think is Hardy, because he is wearing the T-shirt with the number twenty-one. Georg and Julius, who have left the camp with Tim for a short drive, are too late to prevent the kidnapping. Immediately, the four children and Tim go into pursuit.

They sneak into the property called Owl's Nest, where the kidnappers live. However, they are discovered by the chief of the gang. So now they are all trapped. You can walk around the property quite freely, but a high wall and gate make it impossible to escape. Nevertheless, they develop a plan to escape that Hardy realizes. Hardy climbs into the trunk of the kidnappers' car. When one of the kidnappers drives into town, he's still there. At the moment when the kidnapper stops to refuel, he jumps out of the car and goes straight to the police. Meanwhile, after discovering that one of the children was missing, the kidnappers locked the remaining children in the attic. Julius and Richard secure the door that leads into the attic by connecting the doorknob to the electrical circuit from a socket. And so one of the crooks who wants to check on the children again is prevented from entering the attic. At the same time, the children disappear from a window in the attic using a found rope that they have extended with their trousers. When they get downstairs, they first free Tim who is locked up separately in a shed. Together with Tim they capture some of the gangsters. Now the police rushed to intervene in the action. She arrests the gangsters for good. At the end the children show the police a secret hiding place behind a bookshelf in which an escaped convict is staying. One of the executing police officers concluded: "We made a good catch here".

background

The color film was a joint production of Panorama-Film A / S , Copenhagen and Terra-Filmkunst , Berlin . The film team had made the film De fem og spionerne (based on the book: Five friends on new adventures ) a year earlier . In this new film version, however, the already mentioned additional German partner was added. Constantin Film took over the cinema distribution of the film . Exportfilm Bischoff & Co GmBH took over the world sales .

The dog role had been filled with a German shepherd who had probably completed a police dog training course. Apparently it was shot in Denmark.

The film premiered in Denmark on October 16, 1970 . A premiere in Finland followed on August 31, 1973. The film was not published in Canada, where one of the producers was probably based, neither in French nor in English. However, an English language version (entitled: Famous Five Get in Trouble ) was distributed in the United States . A Hungarian version was also published.

Reviews

The film […] has a logically structured, continuous storyline that meets all demands for tension and effectiveness. At the same time, there are many funny and lively scenes so that the children can have fun and enjoy themselves. The story addresses children's wishes, such as a trip together with friends without adults or looking for their own pet, […] on the other hand, it is pleasantly presented how the children treat each other and help each other even when there are difficulties. “Child abduction” seems a little too harmless. This portrayal can give the children the impression that it is not a dangerous crime, […] On the whole, this film is lively and entertaining, but does not necessarily make them think […].

A somewhat inconspicuous, but consistently likeable children's film from Denmark. Without forcing the children too much into adult clichés by means of the script or direction, the director Katrin Hedman reels the adventurous story of a bike tour that ends with the kidnapping of a millionaire's son, based on motifs by Enid Blyton. [...] Katrin Hedman does without the usual crime thriller effects and the usual precocious children's film antics - one and a half hours of entertainment that you can put up with.
