Scott Farrar

Scott Farrar (* 1950 ) is an American specialist in visual effects .

Life

Farrer studied at the University of California Film School at Los Angeles , where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in 1972 . After completing postgraduate studies at the same university, he completed his Master of Fine Arts in 1975 . He then worked as a freelance cameraman for commercials. In 1977 he was responsible for the photographic special effects for the film Foes and in 1979 for Star Trek: The Film . In 1980 a friend who worked at Industrial Light & Magic told him that they needed someone who knew about visual effects as well as on-set photography. He then signed a seven-month contract for the film Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan . After the film, however, he decided to stay with Industrial Light & Magic . In the years that followed, films such as Return of the Jedi , Star Trek III: In Search of Mr. Spock , Starman and 1985 Cocoon followed , for each of which he worked as a special effects cameraman. For Cocoon he received the Oscar for best visual effects along with Ken Ralston , Ralph McQuarrie and David Berry .

In 1987 he worked on the film Willow , in which the morphing technique was used for the first time . In 1988, Wrong Game followed with Roger Rabbit and Cocoon II - The Return , in which he was responsible for the visual effects for the first time. In this capacity, films followed such as Back to the Future II , Back to the Future III , Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Land and Backdraft - Men Who Go Through Fire , for which he was nominated for an Oscar for best visual effects. He received his third nomination in 2001 for AI - Artificial Intelligence , but this year The Lord of the Rings: The Companions won . This was followed by a 2006 nomination for The Chronicles of Narnia: The King of Narnia , 2008 for Transformers and 2012 for Transformers 3 . However, in none of these cases did he receive the award.
