action
An alien (in the American original: Starman ) accepts the invitation of the Voyager Golden Record , which is carried by the Voyager probes, to visit Earth. When entering the earth's atmosphere, however, his spaceship is shot at by fighter jets and has to make an emergency landing on earth. After analyzing films, photos, and the DNA of a strand of hair, the alien takes the form of Jenny Hayden's late husband Scott. After initial resistance, Jenny drives him to the Barringer Crater in Arizona , where the alien is to be picked up in two days. The relationship between the two is initially very tense. Jenny initially reacts disturbed to the strange behavior of the alien. However, the situation is improving by the hour. The alien learns to speak, eat and drive a car.
He also has a few small balls that give him special powers. As a result (he brings a shot deer back to life, for example) he attracts attention and is soon hunted by the military, who see the alien as a threat, but also an interesting research object. The opponent of the military is the scientist Mark Shermin, who rejects all violence and only wants to communicate with aliens. The highlight of the chase is the explosion of a tanker truck, from which the alien can save himself and the seriously injured Jenny with the help of the penultimate little bullet.
After a night of love, the Starman says to Jenny, who thinks she is sterile : "It will be a baby boy" .
At the edge of the crater, the military succeeds in catching the refugees. Only with the help of Mark Shermin do they manage to escape into the crater. An alien spaceship appears. The Starman disappears after giving Jenny the last little ball for her son.
