The man from another planet is a US -American science fiction - television series , the 1986 to 1987 of ABC was produced.
The series, of which only the first 20 parts were dubbed into German , is based on John Carpenter's film Starman with Jeff Bridges and Karen Allen from 1984 . Executive producer was on both the feature film and the television series Michael Douglas .

The series takes place 15 years after the film and is about the return of the alien in the body of a photojournalist named Paul Edward Forrester, who was previously killed in a helicopter crash. He wants to help his son Scott, whom he fathered during the first "visit", to find his missing mother, Jenny Hayden.
Each episode is about how father and son move from place to place to find Scott's mother; they are always on the run from the government embodied by FSA agents George Fox and Wylie. In their search they often meet people in need and Scott tries to explain to his alien father what it means to be human.
Both are connected by a small silver ball of extraterrestrial origin with a diameter of about three to four centimeters. This enables both to communicate and to project thoughts, and it has limited telekinetic properties. The alien teaches his son Scott how to use the sphere by focusing his mind over the course of the series; so it generates in the sequence Bluelights using his thoughts and the ball a rotating ring blue lights.
Forrester and Scott try to stay one step ahead of Agent Fox, the government's UFO investigator. He sees both as a danger to humanity and does not tolerate that they move freely in society. This is well expressed when Forrester Fox, when captured, tries to convey that the future of the world lies in children. Fox reacts with hostility and says that Scott is some kind of mutant and therefore unacceptable. Forrester feels no hatred towards Fox and even saves his life after a life-threatening injury before he and Scott can escape captivity.
In a double episode ( Starscape ), the two finally find Scott's mother Jenny Hayden in Arizona , where she lives as an artist under the name Karen Iseley. After this double episode, another episode was broadcast ( The Test ), which tried to pave the way for the second season of the series as a so-called " Cliffhanger " episode. However, the series was discontinued due to a low audience rate.

The series is conceptually comparable to series such as Auf der Flucht , The Incredible Hulk or Pretender . In all series, the protagonists are pursued or hunted and change their whereabouts from one episode to the next. They help other people in need and even their persecutors in exceptional situations; for example, Dr. Kimble in the series On the run, Lt. Gerard died several times - as Forrester did with his tormentor Fox. The focus of the family series is on humanity and charity, and the negative sides of prejudice and persecution are discussed.
The two former leading actors, Robert Hays and Christopher Daniel Barnes , worked together as speakers in two well-known animated series from Marvel Comics after the end of the television series : Hays voiced the " superhero " Iron Man and Barnes Spider-Man .
The series was nominated twice for the Young Artist Award in 1987 . She received a nomination for "Best Family Television Drama" and Christopher Daniel Barnes received a nomination for "Best Young Actor Starring in a Television Drama Series".
DVD release
The Man from the Other Star was released on DVD (Region 1) on April 16, 2012.
