Michael Cavanaugh (born November 21, 1942 in New York City ) is an American actor and singer .

Life

Cavanaugh grew up as the eldest of nine siblings in New York. After graduating from high school , he joined the United States Navy for three years and was stationed in Hawaii .

After serving in the military, Cavanaugh gained first acting experience in children's theater . He made his stage debut in the title role of a production of Pooh Bear . This was followed by roles in stage adaptations of Eine flew über das Kuckucksnest , The Merchant of Venice and Are You Now or Have You Ever Been . An accomplished singer, Cavanaugh also took on vocal roles as a tenor in musicals such as Oh! Calcutta! on Broadway , Carousel and 110 in the Shade .

Since the mid-1970s, Cavanaugh has also been a sought-after film and television actor and has appeared in numerous television series and films in leading and supporting roles; he often portrays police officers, government agents, strict military characters, lawyers, judges or businessmen.

Cavanaugh has appeared in three Clint Eastwood films: Dirty Harry III in 1976 , The Man Who Never Gives up in 1977 , and Full Throttle to San Fernando in 1980 . He was also known for the portrayal of the antagonist in the Chuck Norris film Kalte Wut from 1982. In the science fiction television series The Man from the Other Star , he embodied the security agent George Fox in 1986 , whose hunt for an alien became his personal obsession becomes. The multi-faceted representation of the figure contributed significantly to the success of the series.

He had other recurring roles as Dennis Grassi in the short-lived crime series C-16: FBI Special Unit , as Sheriff George Patterson in the remake of the vampire series Dark Shadows , as Joseph O'Laughlin in the real-time television series 24 and as Marcek in the adventure series Vanishing Son . Since 2003 he has embodied Judge Phelps in Shadow of Passion . Michael Cavanaugh, who is a member of the Screen Actors Guild (SAG), the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (AFTRA), and the American Union of Actors (AEA), is one of the most prolific and versatile character actors.

In his private life he is involved in anti-drug campaigns, takes part in charity events and supports the Make A Wish Foundation , which grants wishes to terminally ill children.
