Dark Shadows is an American mystery television series broadcast by NBC . It is a new version of the soap opera of the same name , which ran from 1966 to 1971 on ABC . The broadcast in the US began on January 13, 1991 and ended on March 22, 1991 after twelve episodes. In Germany, the series was broadcast on RTL from 1995 to 1996 .

The handyman Willie Loomis is looking for an old treasure. According to legend, it was buried at the Collins family residence. He accidentally opens the grave of the vampire Barnabas Collins. He visits his family and introduces himself as a distant relative from England. He falls in love with Victoria Winters, the new governess of the Collins family. At the same time, there are always new murders in the city. Victoria Winters meanwhile travels back in time and experiences how the still human Barnabas Collins becomes a vampire.

Dark Shadows (1991) is based on the original scripts of the soap opera Dark Shadows . The main role of Barnabas Collins was played by Ben Cross . Dan Curtis directed the 12 episode series. The remake aired on NBC . About the remake, he said that the main characters and relationships were similar to those in the original series. The characters' actions are different, however. Curtis stated that he wrote the first few episodes himself so that the series would have the style he wanted. The remake was produced by MGM Television . Dark Shadows is also known as Dark Shadows: The Revival and has been released on DVD in the United Kingdom and North America.
