Barbara Steele

Barbara Steele (born December 29, 1937 in Birkenhead , Cheshire , England ) is a British film actress .

Life

After working as a photo model and making several small film appearances, Barbara Steele had her breakthrough in 1960 with The Hour when Dracula comes . For the next few years, Steele mainly played leading roles in horror films. She herself was always critical of her horror film image and preferred "serious" films such as Federico Fellini's Eight and Half and Volker Schlöndorff's adaptation of the novel The Young Törless .

In addition to her work in film, she was also seen on television. Since the 1980s she has increasingly worked as a producer of television films and series and is rarely active in front of the camera. Barbara Steele was married to screenwriter James Poe from 1969 to 1978 . They have a son who was born in 1971.
