Dan Curtis

R. Daniel Curtis , born Daniel Mayer Cherkoss , called Dan (born August 12, 1928 in Bridgeport , Connecticut , † March 27, 2006 in Brentwood , California ) was an American film director and film and television producer.

Life

Curtis became known with the evening television series Dark Shadows , which was originally broadcast from 1966 to 1971 and repeated several times over the next thirty years.

His better-known films include The Story of Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde (1968) and Dracula (1973), in each of which Jack Palance took the title role, as well as The Night Stalker (from which the series Kolchak: The Night Stalker emerged), Intruders , The Night Strangler , House of Dark Shadows , Night of Dark Shadows , Burnt Offerings , Trilogy of Terror and furthermore the award-winning TV film The Last Coup of the Dalton Gang , also with Jack Palance.

His miniseries The Winds of War based on the book by Herman Wouk was nominated for four Emmy Awards . In 1988 he finally received an Emmy for his television miniseries Firestorm and Ashes .

Curtis' wife Norma Mae (née Klein) died on March 7, 2006 of a heart attack at the age of 75, which he could not cope with. They had been married since 1952 and had three daughters: Cathy (called Kate ), Tracy and Linda, who died before her mother. Curtis himself died 20 days later.
