Brentwood is a city in the US state of California . The city is located in Contra Costa County in the eastern part of the San Francisco Bay Area , the area around the Bay of San Francisco . The city has around 51,000 inhabitants and the urban area covers an area of ​​30.2 km².

economy

Important branches of the economy are still agriculture , although this has become less important due to increasing urbanization , retail and leisure activities. Heavy industry is hard to find in Brentwood. Ongoing urbanization led to a rapidly growing urban population in the first decade of the 21st century, primarily due to immigration.

Demographics

The city has experienced rapid population growth within ten years. While a good 23,000 people lived in the city in 2000, the 2010 census showed a population of 51,481. The very positive economic development in the region between 2000 and 2008 is seen as the reason for the increase.

The majority of the population is still made up of whites (in 2010 it was 55 percent), but the proportion of Latinos rose from ten to 26 percent in the same period. Afro-Americans and Asians are minorities and make up around six and seven percent of the population, respectively. The number of households in Brentwood at the time of the 2010 census was 16,494. For every 100 women there was an average of 94.2 men, while the median age was 35.6 years.
