Walnut Creek is a city in the San Francisco Bay Area in the US state of California , United States . It belongs to the Contra Costa County , one of the nine local authorities in the area. In 2004, 65,300 inhabitants lived in its urban area with a size of 24.8 km².
The USA's first free newspaper appeared here in the 1940s .
Until its dissolution in 2015, the main studio of the computer game manufacturer Maxis was in Walnut Creek .
During the COVID-19 pandemic , the city hit the headlines around the world in May 2020 when it was reported from the local John Muir Medical Center that it had reached the usual number of suicide attempts in a year in just four weeks and thus more suicide deaths the mass quarantine (“lockdown”) as deaths from the “coronavirus” SARS-CoV-2 . Previously, the head of the hospital's emergency room, Mike deBoisblanc, had called the number of attempted suicides "unprecedented" on ABC local channel KGO-TV , which the Fox News Channel picked up.
