Christy Turlington
Christy Nicole Turlington Burns (born January 2, 1969 in Walnut Creek , California ) is an American model . In the 1990s, she was one of the five most successful supermodels alongside Claudia Schiffer , Cindy Crawford , Naomi Campbell and Linda Evangelista .
biography
Turlington is the daughter of a US father and a mother from El Salvador . In her childhood she liked to go horse riding. When she was thirteen, she was discovered by photographer Dennie Cody at a riding competition in Miami, and a year later she was signed by the modeling agency Ford Models . She got her first orders from the Emporium Capwell shopping chain in San Francisco . She graduated from Monte Vista High School in Danville , California and continued her beginning modeling career. At the end of 1986 Turlington was photographed for the back of the LP sleeve of the album Notorious by Duran Duran . Turlington can also be seen in photos in the tour book of Duran Duran's 1987 tour Strange Behavior '87 . In 1987, her face appeared on the cover of Italian fashion magazine Vogue .
In 1989, Turlington made her breakthrough as a supermodel when she signed a deal with fashion designer Calvin Klein . She started promoting the Eternity perfume . In the same year she signed a contract with the cosmetics company Maybelline . In 1993 People Magazine chose her as one of the 50 Most Beautiful People . Since 1987, she has appeared on the cover of over 1,000 magazines including Vogue, Allure and Elle .
In 1993, the animal rights organization PETA launched the campaign I'd rather go naked than wear fur (' I'd rather go naked than wear fur '). Turlington and Cindy Crawford supported the campaign with nude photos.
In 1996, Turlington founded the Fashion Cafe in New York City together with five other top models ( Cindy Crawford , Kate Moss , Naomi Campbell , Elle Macpherson and Claudia Schiffer ) . In the same year a documentary entitled Catwalk about the life of Turlington was released in theaters.
In May 1999, Turlington finished her studies in literature and philosophy . A year later she signed a contract with the sporting goods company Puma for the yoga collection Nuala , and at the end of 2013 she was the face of an advertising campaign for the luxury hotel group One & Only Resorts.
In 2002 Turlington's first book was published, entitled Living Yoga .
On June 7, 2003, Turlington married actor and director Edward Burns , with whom she has two children.
Christy Turlington has been the Apple Watch Smartwatch Ambassador since October 2014 .
