Jabari Carl Bird (born July 3, 1994 in Walnut Creek , California ) is an American basketball player who is currently without a club and was most recently under contract with the Boston Celtics in the NBA .
college
Bird played for the California Golden Bears at the University of California for four years . In total, he was used in 114 games and scored an average of 10.8 points, 3.3 rebounds and 1.2 assists for the team .
NBA
In the 2017 NBA Draft , Bird was selected 56th by the Boston Celtics . With the Celtics he signed a two-way contract, which enabled him to collect match practice with the NBA G-League team Maine Red Claws and to be in the Celtics squad for up to 45 days. In the G-League, Bird played 20 games and scored 19.3 points, 5.8 rebounds and 2.7 assists on average. Bird made his NBA debut on October 20, 2017, playing against the Philadelphia 76ers . In his rookie season ( 2017 ) he played a total of 13 games for the Celtics and was able to score 3.0 points and 1.5 rebounds on average. Bird had his best game in his first season against the Chicago Bulls , with 15 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 block and 1 steal . After the season, Bird signed a two-year deal worth $ 3 million with the Celtics . Before the start of the 2018/19 NBA season , Bird was arrested by police on charges of assaulting and strangling a person. Even before the incident, Bird was said to have received medical treatment for mental problems. The Atlanta Hawks secured the rights to Bird for money in a trade with the Celtics in early 2019. However, the Hawks released Bird immediately after the trade to save money, so Bird is currently a free agent.

Jabari Bird's father Carl Bird also played basketball for the California Golden Bears. In the 1976 NBA Draft , this was selected in 86th place by the Golden State Warriors , but was not used in the NBA.
