NBA Draft 2017
The 2017 NBA Draft took place on June 22, 2017 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn , New York . In two draft rounds, the 30 NBA teams were able to secure the rights to 60 young players from the NCAA college league and abroad.
In the draft lottery on May 16, 2017, the final selection order was determined. The 14 teams that did not qualify for the playoffs of the 2016/17 season took part in this weighted lottery . The Brooklyn Nets won the lottery with a 25.0% chance of the first pick , but ceded their draft rights to the Boston Celtics , ahead of the Los Angeles Lakers and Sacramento Kings , who had to swap their draft rights with the Philadelphia 76ers . A few days before the draft, the Celtics and Sixers agreed to swap their picks. The favorites for the first pick were combo guard Markelle Fultz from the University of Washington and guard Lonzo Ball from UCLA , as well as combo forward Jayson Tatum from Duke University .
All players who signed up for the draft had to be born before December 31, 1998, regardless of their school education or nationality. If they were not an "international player," it must have been at least a year between their registration date and their final high school year.
As expected, the first pick of the draft was Markelle Fultz , followed by Lonzo Ball and Jayson Tatum . Isaiah Hartenstein was selected as the only German in 43rd place by the Houston Rockets .
