Zach Collins (born November 19, 1997 in North Las Vegas ) is an American basketball player . The inside player has been under contract with the Portland Trail Blazers in the NBA since 2017 .

career

Collins played at Bishop Gorman High School in Las Vegas , Nevada, and enrolled at Gonzaga University in 2016 . He only played one year for the university team at the university in Spokane ( Washington state ): During the 2016/17 season, he wore the shirt of the team nicknamed "The Bulldogs" in 39 games, but was never in the starting line-up . He had to give way to the Pole Przemysław Karnowski in the position of the inside player , who was regular under the basket. Collins' time at Gonzaga was 17.2 minutes per game, he posted averages of ten points and just under six rebounds. With 69 blocked opposing throws, he was the leader in this statistical category for Gonzaga during the 2016/17 season. He advanced with his team to the final of the NCAA, but lost there to North Carolina with 65:71. Collins scored nine points in the final and collected seven rebounds. Then he turned his back on Gonzaga and ventured into professional business.

In the NBA draft in June 2017, Collins was taken tenth in the first selection round by the Sacramento Kings , who gave up the rights to the young inside player to the Portland Trail Blazers . In early July 2017, he was officially signed by Portland. In the early days of his NBA opening game year 2017/18, Collins hardly received any playing time in Portland (3.8 minutes per game in November 2017), but later fought for larger portions of the game. He was used in a total of 66 games of the NBA main round, stood on the field for an average of 15.8 minutes and scored an average of 4.4 points and 3.3 rebounds per encounter.
