Christian James "CJ" McCollum (born September 19, 1991 in Canton , Ohio ) is an American basketball player who is currently under contract with the Portland Trail Blazers in the NBA . He won the NBA Most Improved Player Award for Most Improved Player of the Season in the 2015-16 season.

college

McCollum played four years for Lehigh University in the NCAA College League . During these years he was noticed as a good shooter and averaged 23.9 points in his final year of college as a senior .

During his time at college, he was elected twice to the All-American team and twice Player of the Year. He also graduated as a journalist in 2013.

NBA

He was drafted 10th in the 2013 NBA Draft by the Portland Trail Blazers , making him the highest-drafted player at Lehigh University.

Due to a broken foot, McCollum suspended the first six weeks of his first NBA season. On January 8, 2014, he made his NBA debut against Orlando Magic and scored 4 points. However, he could not play permanently in the rotation and scored 5.3 points in 38 games this season in his first year.

In his sophomore year, McCollum averaged 6.8 points. Due to the injury of Wesley Matthews, he slipped into the starting line-up and was particularly convincing in the playoffs, where he scored an average of 17.0 points in 5 games and scored 56% of his throws. In his third NBA year, McCollum finally became a starter and provided Damian Lillard, a strong offensive backcourt. McCollum improved his stats to 20.8 points, 3.8 rebounds and 4.3 assists per game, for which he was awarded the NBA Most Improved Player Award .
