Wesley Matthews Jr. (born October 14, 1986 in San Antonio , Texas ) is an American basketball player who plays in the NBA for the Milwaukee Bucks . His father Wes Matthews was also active in the NBA.

NBA career

Utah Jazz

After playing college basketball at Marquette University, Matthews switched to professional life. In the 2009 NBA draft , however, Matthews was not selected by any team. Nevertheless, he was invited to the NBA Summer League by the Utah Jazz and Sacramento Kings . Matthews was convincing and was signed by Jazz. After the Jazz had sent Ronnie Brewer away, Matthews moved up to the starting grid. He finished his first year with 9.4 points per game.

Portland Trail Blazers

After the season, Matthews became a Restricted Free Agent . After accepting a contract offer from the Portland Trail Blazers , the Jazz had a week to catch up with the Blazers offer and thus keep Matthews in Utah. The Jazz did not accept the offer and Matthews moved to Portland.

Due to a serious injury to star player Brandon Roy, Matthews moved up to the starting line-up and established himself as one of the most important players on the team behind LaMarcus Aldridge . In his sophomore year, Matthews increased his points yield to 15.9 points per game.

2013-14 he achieved his best season so far with 16.4 points and reached the playoffs again after 2011 with the Blazers .

On January 17, 2015, Matthews converted his 773 three-point throw, overtaking Terry Porter , making him the TrailBlazers' most successful three-point shooter.

On March 5, 2015, Matthews suffered an Achilles injury and was out for the remainder of the season. By then he had completed 59 games for the Blazers, in which he scored an average of 16.1 points per game.

Dallas Mavericks

For the 2015/16 season Matthews moved to the Dallas Mavericks .

New York Knicks

In January 2019 Matthews was swapped for the New York Knicks, but his contract was already canceled after a week.

Indiana Pacers

In February 2019, Matthews signed with the Indiana Pacers .
