History and description of the building

The massive building was built in 1314 or 1315, making it the oldest surviving town hall in Weißenburg. It is two-storey, massive and has a gable roof with a stepped gable. The walls are made of limestone . The building was rebuilt in the 19th century. From the middle of the 16th century it housed a restaurant . In 1798 the Sternwirt Christoph Friedrich Staudinger was granted the concession to brew brown beer and two years later for the rock cellar in the so-called Bärloch . From 1847 the star was owned by Paul Hüttinger , who had moved from Schambach . In 1885 his son Otto, then his widow Katharina and her second husband Friedrich Stöcker, took over the brewery. From 1914 Otto Hüttinger was in charge of the company until 1935. In 1935, the “Zum golden Stern” brewery was taken over by the Schneider Bräu brewery . Today there is only one restaurant in the building called Goldener Stern .

The Felsenkeller on today's Eichstätter Straße, also known as Stöckerskeller or Sternwirtskeller , was laid out in 1814 by the Zum Weisse Adler brewery and equipped with a building in 1836. In 1873 the cellar was taken over by the “Golden Star”. In 2007 the cellar was taken over by the Sigwart brewery and continued under the name Bärenkeller .
