history

The history of the house goes back to the year 1558. A brewery has been occupied since 1664. In the 18th century, the brewery was the top-selling brewery in Weißenburg. Before 1774, the Golden Lion was the first brewery in Weißenburg to be granted permission to brew “brown beer” . After several generations of the Schnitzlein family (see also Zum Ochsen brewery in Bieswang ), the brewery was taken over by the Pflaumer family in 1856. After Karl Pflaumer, Gustav Pflaumer took over, who handed it over to Ludwig Arauner in 1897. In 1927 the OHG Löwenbrauerei was founded, with it the brewery took an enormous boom and became the most modern company in Weißenburg, until 1979 the brewery was given up.

Summer cellar

With the permission to brew brown beer, the Löwenbrauerei also needed a "cellar", the associated inn was opened in 1774 as the first summer cellar in Weißenburg. Even if the brewery itself no longer exists, the so-called “Araunerskeller” is still open today and is known and loved.
