history

The name Bieswang comes from Binswangen . This name comes from the rushes that probably grew in the depression in which the village center is located. The first documentary mention comes from the year 889 AD. The settlement is probably older and goes back to the tribe of the Alemanni , who probably had a royal court here . In Bieswang the family names Hüttinger, Rachinger and Gronauer are very often represented, which goes back to refugees from Hütting (near Rennertshofen , today Upper Bavaria ) and Raching in South Tyrol . Oral family histories tell that the Gronauers were once recruited as mercenaries by the Reichsmarschalls zu Pappenheim and come from one of the eight German towns and villages called Gronau . The Reformation was carried out under the Marshals von Pappenheim in 1566/67. Bieswang is probably the birthplace of the composer Henrico Albicastro, who was born around 1660 .

Until the municipal reform , which came into force on May 1, 1978, Bieswang was an independent municipality with its Mittelmarterhof district and Ochsenhart , which was incorporated on July 1, 1972 .

Parish Church of St. Martin

The church of St. Martin is characteristic of the town. Its historical core is over 950 years old. The Evangelical Lutheran Church Congregation celebrates the day of church consecration - according to old tradition - on the 1st Sunday after Trinity (two weeks after Pentecost). The lower floor of the tower dates from the Romanesque period, the nave and upper floor of the tower can be dated to 1673. The church was redesigned in baroque style , which can be recognized by the stucco and wall paintings. The pulpit and baptismal font are from 1793 in the style of classicism . According to the Bavarian Monument List, an “interestingly crafted, richly furnished offering box” is remarkable .

A considerable amount of renovation measures are due soon. Not only should defects in the building fabric be corrected, the interior design should also be made attractive again. A support association was founded especially for this purpose in autumn 2011.
