Pleikard Joseph Stumpf (born September 6, 1807 in Bamberg ; † July 15, 1877 ) was a German administrative lawyer and archivist in Bavaria.

Life

Pleikard Joseph Stumpf was the son of the later government director of Würzburg Andreas Sebastian Stumpf. He studied at the University of Würzburg and in 1826 at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich Law . In 1827 he became active with Karl Gustav Geib in the short-lived Corps Arminia Munich. It only existed from January 27, 1827 to June 24, 1827. After completing his studies, he worked at the district court of Würzburg . In 1832 he switched to the archives service and in 1843 he joined the archives of the Bavarian Parliament in Munich as archivist . Since 1845 he had the rank of government council and from 1871 the title of government director. In 1852 he was elected to the Bavarian Academy of Sciences .

In addition to various writings on Bavarian personalities and communities, he published two larger works on the history of Bavaria : Bavaria. A geographical-statistical-historical manual of the kingdom as well as a collection of biographies of well-known Bavarians. This work was created on the basis of an application submitted by the Historical Commission of the Bavarian Academy and a prize granted by Maximilian II. Joseph (Bavaria) in 1860, which Stumpf received for his concept.
