The Würzburg District Court is a court of ordinary jurisdiction . It is one of 22 regional courts in the Free State of Bavaria .

history

Bavarian regional courts of the older order

In the area around Würzburg in 1804 after the secularization of the Würzburg monastery by Bavaria, the regional courts "Würzburg links des Main" in Ochsenfurt and "Würzburg right des Main" in Röttingen as well as the "City Court Würzburg" were established. In 1806 the area came to the Grand Duchy of Würzburg , but with which it fell back to Bavaria in 1814. In 1840 the Röttingen Regional Court was renamed the Aub Regional Court after its official seat .

The older regional courts were judicial and administrative authorities in the Kingdom of Bavaria , which were replaced in their function as administrative authorities by the district offices in 1862 and in their function as courts by the local courts in 1879 . The previous regional and city courts were converted into local courts .

After the Courts Constitution Act came into force in 1879, a regional court in the current sense was formed. The precursor was the District Court of Würzburg , founded in 1857 .

Courthouse

The district court, located at the Kürschnerhof until the building was demolished in 1894, is divided into several buildings. The criminal justice center, built in 2004, is located at Ottostraße 5 . The civil proceedings are, which completely gutted since the end of July 2010. Justice Palace (next to the Criminal Justice Center) since 2004 and has been modernized, and negotiated in the boardroom cultivation. Previously, this part of the regional court was relocated to a building at Mergentheimer Strasse 20-22 .

The Würzburg Regional Court is one of seven regional courts subordinate to the Bamberg Higher Regional Court; subordinate are the local courts in Gemünden am Main , Kitzingen and Würzburg .
