Percussive painting

In terms of form and content, percussive painting provides the original introduction to the work of the painter and percussionist Andreas Fasbender. The canvas as a classic paint medium becomes a musical instrument.

Andreas Fasbender has created his very own artistic style with his percussive painting since 1991 by mounting pickups behind the canvas and thus making the paint hit on the canvas audible as a sound or rhythm. For Andreas Fasbender, percussive painting is the unconditional synthesis of painting and music. Music as the central motif of his canvas reflects retrospectively the drummed arrangements and thus gives the viewer the opportunity to optically capture the rhythm and thus “hear” it again.

Andreas Fasbender's instrument is the conga. The vitality that she embodies is a sign of the dynamism of his image design and at the same time preserves the experimental character of his works, as in jazz. The free use of color, material, figuration and gesture is inherent in his compositions. Fields of material and spots of color can also turn into potential eardrums at the same time.
