Location of Grafenmühle in Bavaria

Grafenmühle is a district of the town of Pappenheim in the central Franconian district of Weißenburg-Gunzenhausen , which today no longer has any buildings. The wasteland lies at an altitude of 417 meters above sea level and last had 5 inhabitants in 1961. Despite the lack of development today, Grafenmühle is an official district of Pappenheim.

location

Grafenmühle was located on the Franconian Alb in the Altmühltal between the Niederpappenheim district of Pappenheim and the Dietfurt district of Treuchtlingen . If you drive from Pappenheim on Bundesstraße 2 in the direction of Dietfurt, 500 meters after a sharp left bend, the area between the street and the Altmühl becomes wider; there was the mill, which no longer indicated any sign. In the following right-hand bend, you can see the spring-fed reservoir of the former mill on the right.

history

As its name suggests, the mill belonged to the Counts of Pappenheim in the Holy Roman Empire . In 1783 she is mentioned in a description of the Bergnershof near Dietfurt . In the territorial reorganization in the new Kingdom of Bavaria , the Grafenmühle 1808 came within the existing until 1848 Justice Department Pappenheim as a rule court I. class to control district Dietfurt. After Pappenheim's efforts, the Grafenmühle with Niederpappenheim came to the municipality of Pappenheim in 1831.

The mill was a grinding mill with an adjacent sawmill, an inn and a farm. The sawmill, which was powered by a supply line from the Altmühl, which flowed close to the Grafenmühle until it was corrected in 1913, worked until 1871, the grinding mill, which processed spelled , rye , wheat and barley , among other things , was in operation until 1914. The inn existed until the 1970s. In 1996 the buildings were considered "half-ruined" and in 1999 they were demolished. Only the field name "Grafenmühle" has been preserved. "Altenbürger Kalkstein" is mined in a quarry to the south. The Count's summer house , a wooden gazebo , located at the Grafenmühle , has been on private property by the old water tower in Schernfeld, 12 km away , since 1986 .
