Vyškovce nad Ipľom (until 1948 Slovak "Vyškovce" - to 1927 "Viška" or "Viškovce"; Hungarian Ipolyvisk - until 1907 Visc ) is a municipality in the west of Slovakia with 652 inhabitants (December 31, 2019) that the Levice District , part of the Nitriansky kraj .

The municipality is located in the eastern part of the Slovak Danube lowlands on the right bank of the Ipeľ and at the same time on the inner side of its loop. A little to the north, the Ipeľ receives the tributary Štiavnica . Across the river runs the railway line from Čata to Šahy and parallel to it the border with Hungary . The center of the village is at an altitude of 123  m nm and is nine kilometers from Šahy and 31 kilometers from Levice .

Neighboring municipalities are Dolné Semerovce in the north, briefly Hrkovce in the northeast, Šahy in the east, Bernecebaráti and Tésa (both in Hungary) in the south, Kubáňovo in the west and Sazdice in the northwest.

history

Vyškovce nad Ipľom Church

The place is an old settlement and has been continuously populated since the Stone Age. Archaeological finds come from the time of the Bandlinearkeramischen culture, from a settlement of the Maďarovce culture as well as other cultures of the Bronze Age and furthermore Hallstatt and Latène Ages. A Roman coin hoard comes from the 2nd century AD, which contained 1,067 silver denarii and was discovered in 1930 (for details see Burgus Szob ). A Slavic settlement existed in the 9th century.

The present village was first mentioned in writing in 1156 as Visc (other sources only give it as Wysk in 1266 ). In 1256 the place came directly to King Béla IV , who gave it to a certain János , son of Csák , in 1296 . Between 1303 and 1312 there was a castle here, which resisted a siege by troops of Charles Robert of Anjou in 1312. The exact fate is not known as it is no longer mentioned as early as 1324. In 1347 the place became the property of the treasurer Miklós Kóny from the Kacsics family through marriage . Modern owners came from the families Koháry , Forgách , Esterházy and most recently Brauner .

In 1715 the village had 39 households, in 1720 a mill and 53 households. In 1828 there were 133 houses and 803 inhabitants who were employed in agriculture, fruit growing and as shepherds.

Until 1919, the place in Hont County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia. From 1938 to 1945 he was once again part of Hungary due to the First Vienna Arbitration .

According to the 2011 census, Vyškovce nad Ipľom had 666 inhabitants, of which 445 were Magyars, 167 Slovaks, 34 Roma, four Czechs and one Jew; one resident indicated a different ethnic group. 14 residents gave no information in this regard. 592 residents confessed to the Roman Catholic Church, ten residents to the Reformed Church, seven residents each to the Jehovah's Witnesses and the Congregational Church, three residents to the Evangelical Church AB and one resident each to the Old Catholic Church and the Jewish community; one resident professed a different denomination. 18 inhabitants were without a denomination and the denomination of 26 inhabitants was not determined.
