The Štiavnica is a 55 km long river in the middle of Slovakia and a right tributary of the Ipeľ .

The river has its source in the Schemnitz Mountains near Štiavnické Bane and shortly after the source it passes three of the remaining tajchy : Bakomi, Veľká Vindšachta and Evička. It runs further east through the area of the city of Banská Štiavnica and then generally flows south. After Banská Štiavnica, the Štiavnica flows through places like Svätý Anton and Prenčov , before reaching the Ipeľská pahorkatina , a part of the Danube hill country, at Hontianske Nemce . Then the valley widens and on the way south the river touches places such as Hontianske Tesáre , where it receives its largest inflow, the right bank Belujský potok , and the health resort Dudince . It flows into the Ipeľ between Hrkovce and Vyškovce nad Ipľom , a few kilometers north of the state border with Hungary .
