Dudince (until 1927 Slovak "Ďudince"; German rarely Dudintze , Hungarian Gyűgy ) is a city in central Slovakia.
It is located at the southwestern end of the Karpfener Plateau ( Krupinská planina ), about 27 kilometers southwest of Krupina and 15 kilometers north of Šahy . It consists of the actual place Dudince and the place Merovce (incorporated in 1960).
The place is an old settlement ( Neolithic , Eneolithic , Bronze Age , Slavic Middle Ages) and was first mentioned in 1284 as Dyud .
In 1589 it was finally reported that about 30 degrees Celsius hot, carbonated and sulphurous springs were used for therapeutic treatment. In 1966 the spas in the town were nationalized, and in 1989 the town was granted town charter.
The Štiavnica (German Schemnitz ) flows through Dudince . It is known for its sulphurous, carbonic thermal baths (18 ° C - 29 ° C). These were opened up on a large scale in the 19th century; today diseases of the joints and nerves are mainly treated.
According to the 2001 census, of 1,500 inhabitants, 95.67% were Slovaks, 3.53% Hungarians, 0.20% Roma and 0.13% Czech. The most represented denomination was the Roman Catholic with 55.67%; 28.93% declared themselves to be Protestant and 0.27% to the Greek Catholic faith. 11.27% were non-denominational.
